C. practical on-site riding

D. practical on-road training

E. practical on-road riding

The five elements have to be completed in sequence, although the order of the exercises within the element can be varied. You will only move on to the next element when your instructor is satisfied you have learnt the necessary theory and demonstrated the practical skills to a safe basic level. Trainees must, by law, receive a minimum two hour on-road ride in Element E.

Before any practical motorcycle tests can be taken you must have passed a motorcycle theory test.

Category A1 Restricted

The A1 restricted licence is aimed mainly at those who want a full motorcycle licence, but do not intend riding anything bigger than a 125cc motorcycle. It is also the only category of motorcycle licence besides the moped licence for those aged 17-19 years.

Category A2 Restricted

If you are 19 years or over you are restricted to 47bhp (35kw). You are allowed to restrict any motorcycle that does not exceed 94bhp in its standard form.

After two years or when you have reached the age of 24, you will be allowed to take an unrestricted catagory A motorcycle test that will allow you to ride any size machine without any restrictions.

Category A Unrestricted

You have to be 24 years old or over to take the direct access route (DAS), this will allow you to ride any size machine straight away, without any restrictions once you have passed your motoryccle test.

Advanced Coaching and Training sessions

This is a full days training (usually 150 miles) The aim of these sessions are to develop your riding skills and enhance your knowledge in advanced motorcycle riding techniques.

Refresher

Back to Biking For the Rider returning to biking after a break. The main aim is to build confidence so we can start on smaller machines building up onto a 600cc motorcycle, before moving onto more advanced riding techniques. A brief discussion before the course is beneficial to assess your specific level of riding and your objectives as we tailor these courses to the individual.
